Cancer ranks the second most common cause of death in women, only
after heart-related diseases. Some of the cancers that often or only affect
women are breast, colon, endometrial, cervical, skin and ovarian cancers. By
knowing about these cancers and taking steps to prevent or find them early, you
may give yourself a chance to survive.
Breast cancer
Women should take breast tests to prevent or detect breast cancer early. info.ahccresearch.com |
Breast
cancer is the most common cancer among women that they may suffer at any age,
but the risk rises as you get older. Family history, race, genetic tendencies,
no pregnancies or having the first pregnancy after the age of 30 and obesity
are some of the many causes for breast cancer in women. Early detection is the
key for survival, so women should undergo breast tests to avoid this disease.
Cervical cancer
A Pap test can be the detection of cervical cancer. loveembraceinspire.com |
There are
more than one third of women in India who suffer and die from cervical cancer.
The risk factors for this type of deadly cancer are sexual intercourse at an early
age, HIV infection, poor nutrition and smoking. A Pap tests can be the
detection of the changes in the cervix that can be treated before becoming
cancer. However, women under age 21 should not be tested.
Colon cancer
Quit smoking to avoid the risk of colon cancer. |
More than 90
percent of colon cancers are found in people age 50 or older. Risk factors
include: a personal or family history of colorectal cancer, polyps or
inflammatory bowel disease; being overweight; eating low-fiber, high-fat diet;
being inactive and smoking. Colon cancer almost starts with a polyp, a small
growth on the lining of the colon and rectum, so early detection can be a
lifesaver. If pre-cancerous polyps are removed, this deadly disease can be
prevented.
A new study
of the American Institutes of Health has found a promising link between calcium
and dairy food consumption and a reduced risk of colon cancer.
Ovarian cancer
Ovarian
cancer affects women after the age of 55. Women who have never bore children,
who have unexplained infertility, who had their first baby after the age of 30 or
who have used estrogen alone as hormone swap therapy fall victim to this type
of cancer.
Until now,
there have not been any good tests for detecting ovarian cancer, even a Pap
test, but you should visit a health care provider if any of the following symptoms
occur: abdominal swelling; abdominal or pelvic pain; digestive problems like
bloating, gas and loss of appetite and the urge to urinate all the time.
Skin cancer

A new study
states that women who have fair skin and red or blonde hair and spend a lot of
time in the sun are vulnerable to getting skin cancer. The other cause of this
type of cancer is when a close family member has suffered from melanoma.
Most skin
cancers can be prevented by reducing exposure to the sunlight and other sources
like tanning beds or lamps by trying to stay in the shade, especially during
the middle of the day; wearing sunscreen, sunglasses, hats or more when going
out.
Endometrial cancer
This type of
cancer occurs most often in women age 55 or older when the disease affects the
lining of the uterus. Having an early onset of menstrual period, history of
infertility, late menopause or not having a child are some causes of
endometrial cancer.
