FOODS THAT CAUSE CONSTIPATION

The obvious causes of constipation include a low fiber diet, not drinking enough water, ignoring the urge of nature or a lack of exercise. A low fiber diet that involves bread, red meat, cookies, chips, chocolate, etc. should be avoided to give your bowel a relief.


Constipation is a common health problem faced by many people that can lead to many other serious diseases if it lasts for a longer period of time. Therefore, look at the following foods that can overload your bowel movements causing dry stool and you should replace them with high-fiber choices that work to prevent constipation.

Bread

Wheat and barley bread contain high content of fructans and gluten that are difficult for the body to digest and absorb. Later, bacteria begin to ferment this undigested food in the gut leading to abdominal pain, gases, discomfort and changes in the bowel movements.

Red meat

Although red meat by itself doesn’t cause constipation, the problem is that when you have meat for your meals, you usually avoid vegetables that are high in fiber. Therefore, make sure that you have a well-balanced diet including plenty of fiber-rich foods like salad or some baked potatoes.

Cookies, pastries and cakes

They are made from refined flour that are low in fiber, low in fluid but high in fat causing constipation. These foods are also not good for your gut health, so you should eat them occasionally but not daily or replace them with high-fiber desserts and snacks such as fresh fruit which are good for constipation relief.

Unripe green bananas

Surprisingly, bananas can either be a cause of constipation or a solution for constipation, depending on their ripeness. Unripe green bananas are constipating, but ripe ones are rich in soluble fiber, which can help to push waste through the bowels, so ripe bananas can also helpful in relieve constipation issues.

Dairy products

Ice cream, cheese and other dairy products have a reputation of being constipating foods as they are low in fiber and high in fat. These foods slow down digestion process and cause dry stool. Therefore, to prevent constipation, try to include vegetable salad along with cheese or tofu or any foods that are rich in fiber to increase the bulk of intestines.

These foods are not only low in fiber and high in fat content but also rich in sodium and chemical preservatives. High sodium content in the body can lead to constipation since it causes loss of water to dilute the salt, keeping it from pushing waste through the body.

Chocolate

Dark chocolate has been well-known to be good for your health if eaten in moderation. Excess intake can cause constipation because it reduces the intestinal movements.
